Is membership for you?

Who is it for

The ARA is there to support re-enactors to enjoy their hobby whether you are:

a veteran re-enactor
a member of a well established or long running re-enactment group
new to re-enacting or
are doing reenacting with a number of different groups

The ARA offers members, event organisers and the public, advice and guidance on such things as performance and display safety and the reasonable presentation of historical accuracy in recreational re-enactment activities.

Public liability protection

The ARA provides services such as public liability insurance for a wide range of re-enactment activities to help support independent groups and individuals to pursue their unique re-enactment interests in the manner that best suits each individual and group.

Representation

The ARA also acts to represent members’ interests in areas such as legislation that affects re-enactment activities.

Objectives

The ARA’s role is in more contemporary and back end issues such as public liability insurance, safety, ethical practice, promoting re-enactment as a hobby.

The Australian Re-enactors Association (ARA) was established in 2012 with the following objectives:

Source and manage appropriate and affordable Public Liability and other insurance for re-enactors to enjoy their respective activities.
Ensure that there is a platform and opportunity for all re-enactors to pursue and enjoy re-enactment to a standard that they are comfortable with.
Promote and support greater levels of diversity, participation and co-operation amongst re-enactors in Australia.
Ensure the safety of members by promoting and encouraging compliance with safety standards in combat and public displays.
Promote high standards of integrity in members’ pursuit and enjoyment of re-enacting.
Build and maintain a culture amongst re-enactors that respects, values and embraces all re-enactors regardless of their individual or group approach.
Represent the common interests of its members
Promote re–enactment as a worthwhile hobby and past time to the wider Australian Community that is meant to be, above all other things, fun.
Remind re-enactors and the public that historical re-enactment, as a recreational pursuit, is meant to be fun.

Members focus on different historical periods and locations from the Classical Ancient world through to Australians in the Second World War.

Aside from organising public liability insurance, the ARA also acts to represent members’ interests in areas such as legislation that affects re-enactment activities.
